I remember folks used to freeze fish in half gallon milk cartons. They stayed good that way a long time. They did take a while to thaw out

Frozen In Water = Frozen in time. I have had some fish that were 7+ years old that were fine when thawed out, if they had a spot of freezer burn, it was trimmed off and the remaining portion was cooked, Tasted fine and not a single issue from doing so.

Had some 2 yrs old and they were fine. Don’t normally stay in my freezer that long. We eat a lot of fish

Go for it. At worst they don't taste fresh. At best they taste like you caught them last week.
