    Default Windy November

This has been the windiest dadgum Fall that I can remember. There has yet to be a single day calm enough that I can get my boat out, that coincides with a day off work. I spent all Summer remodeling the house, and haven’t felt a thump since early June.

I guess I’ll keep catching trout from the bank until the wind dies down.

That’s all. Just wanted to take a public dive into the pity pool.

Ahhhh….. but how glorious will that first thump feel when you get it!!!!

I don’t know how you fish, but I fish low-budget and small. Aluminum jon boat, small outboard and no trolling motor or other electronics. Fishing this way allows me to put my boat in all kinds of little oxbow lakes. Even when it’s pretty windy I can find a row of trees to block the wind so I can get still and fish.

    Something to consider.

I’m in the northwest corner. Without driving 2 hours or more, the only decent crappie fishing is Beaver Lake. There are places on Beaver where I could hide from the wind. The problem is access on Beaver. In a 14’ Jon, there’s no way to get to those hidden spots safely, and then back to the boat ramp safely, when it’s windy. By Arkansas standards, Beaver is big, deep water. I accidentally got caught out in open water on a windy day once; I try to make sure there isn’t a twice.

Now, if you have a nice, big v-bottom boat, none of this matters. If I live long enough to retire, I plan to get me one.

And it continues to blow….tried to be productive by sinking habitat. Hope it pays off!

I used to drop my little 12 foot flat bottom in the back of old highway 12 many years ago to bass fish. Actually had waves crashing inside my boat. Probably the most scared I have ever been in a boat. When Beaver was nasty I would haul over to Atlanta. Caught several scary big crappie out of it on crankbaits. Most were over two pounds. Kept that secret to myself. I live in the Cabot area now so I don’t mind sharing.
