RCC where you at ? This is your part of the state .
I have a question for those who fish the Black and Current Rivers.....
I just recently started going to the Black.....I have fished the lower White but I have
not done well for crappie. I need some tips in dealing with the current and some presentation tips.
I was a little naive to the work involved in boat control etc.....
All information appreciated
thanks
Tom

Takeum Jigs
A bud catches am on bigger jigs on heavier heads. I fish the spring and catch a few. I run up from black rock and fish up to the first rock bar. Never seem to catch them in the same spots on successive days. 15 one day 6 the next. A few slabs but most are 9-10 inches. Watch for submerged hazards. Walleye season is just around the corner.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

thanks for the tip, I appreciate the info

I fish Current, Black and Spring.
Another option is putting in at Pokey and motoring up to Fourche.
If the water is too swift to keep your boat still in w/ a sculling paddle…. You’re not gonna catch crappie there any way.
Find still water and drop a jig in it.

walleye and sauger move in in winter. big minnows and jumbo sassy shads seem to work. deeper holes and below rock bars, The hole where the spring runs into black always looks like it would be good but I never catch them there, years ago talked to a guy that said he got a 19-4 right below first rock bar. Was fishing there one day and Rayo pulled up alongside. Figured I was in a good spot.

I fish the lower White and it is no different than fishing the Black, Current, St. Francis, etc. Current breaks are your friend. That can be anything from a log, tree, sharp corner, etc. Usually once you find a current break that holds fish, it will more often than not hold fish. If you were swimming in that river, where would you spend your time treading water. That's the way you approach river fishing.
