I have been testing 2 different lines in 4 pound test. Stren Crappie Gold and Slime line. I like both a lot. Last 2 trips fishing I found myself reaching for the Slime Line. Not knocking the Stren at all it is very good line but it seems to have more stretch than the Slime. Time on the water will tell.

I have to use hi viz line because of eyes have had 68 years of use. Hard to thread up fish hooks without glasses anymore. I do use SOS 2# which is tough on the eyes as well.

The new Zebco Camo crappie line in orange is great. 4# and good knot power.

Depends casting or verticle jigging . I use Stren in 8lb mono but lighter cast better . Have fished with guys that use braid and it works . Wind bad about wrapping braid around your rod . I am older and can't see well enough to untangle it .

I have used hi vis vicious for years until they started making it in India then the quality went down. Still decent line for the price. The Stren crappie gold is great line but hard to find. I fish mostly vertical so all my line is 8 lb. I have used the hi vis for years never affected the bite even in clearer water.

I use green or blue Stren . Used to think colored line spooked Crappie but livescope shows they usually not line shy even with braid .

Usually start year with expensive fluorocarbon and finish with cheap mono.

I prefer to cast and my favorite line is Vicious hi-vis 4 or 6 lb. As Tim said, it was better line before going to India, but still pretty good.. When I vertical jig I use 8 lb Vicious or 10 lb braid. I'm not strictly a crappie fisherman so I rig my various multi-species rods with all types of line. It's been my experience that the only species truly line shy is trout. When fish are active the line visibility doesn't matter. However, when tight lipped and inactive all species can be a little line shy, including crappie.
