Great post! I'm concerned about the very large crappie as well. Too many 3lb fish being taken out of the Big 4 in North Mississippi. I'd love to see a slot limit with 14 1/2" maximum and min slot set based on characteristics of lake.

That would certainly help and would probably work well. I'd rather see the limits cut based on fish population at the individual lakes. I realize that it would be a lot of work for the Game and Fish agencies, but I'd love to see that approach to problem with slot limitations applied to protect the very large fish.

Maybe do a slot with 2-4 fish limit over a certain size... limit would be so people can still catch the big fish but not catch them all out. Let’s say a slot from 10-13 then 2 fish over 16 inches.... I’m not sure on the sizes but just something similar to that. I like catching big fish myself.

I agree with minimum lengths and a reduced limit but on a lake by lake basis. Some lakes in Northeast Arkansas are so full of small fish you might catch one or two a day that would even reach a 10" minimum length and all limits have been removed trying to clear out some of the small fry.

One thing for certain is that if we live 4-6 more years and nothing is changed we will know the effect of the current conditions .
it absolutely amazes me how many fish reach the 12-16” range every year . But will they continue to be able to do that . Time will tell. ! Nothing against live scope and if I could afford one I’d definitely have the biggest they make. But I wonder now that you hear of lots of folks chasing down these monster slabs in open water on these lakes that produce big fish what’s going to take the big uns place ! I keep lots of fish every year for my self and share with those that can’t go and I catch quite a few 2# plus fish but I very seldom ever keep fish over 13” on my lake just because I don’t like a real fishy fish and those that are bigger than that to me are real strong .

Another idea would be to stay out of it and let the Game & Fish handle it. That's what we pay them for.

Controversial? Yep it is that for sure. I follow the Livescope facebook pages also, what is going on is just a little ridiculous to say the least.

I was talking with a local AGFC biologist just last week about various things, He was telling me that the shoreline creel surveys as well as on the water creel surveys, now incorporate questions on electronics as well as other issues. This tells me that they are starting to question the effects of the High end video game fishing electronics. Yep before you wonder or ask, Yes I have livescope and all the updated down and side imaging electronics. It is my opinion that just because you can catch them don't mean you should, especially if you are concerned enough to bring it up on a fishing forum wanting someone to regulate your ability. Even catch and release fishing comes with a increased mortality rate, boat flipping fish if it touches anything removes slime coat and opens the fish up to infections, touching fish removes slime coat, same issue. Fighting fish when conditions are not the most favorable for the fish can kill them. Holding them by the bottom jaw and cranking their jaw down for a photo op then releasing them, that can break their jaws and then they cant eat. If people are concerned because they can catch a hundred a day, then they should self regulate what they are doing. It makes no sense to me to try and get someone to make a person quit doing something that they are already questioning doing. Kind of makes me think of a school yard bully, standing there looking at someone and saying "if you don't like it make me quit". I am sure most everyone's vehicle that they drive will go down the road at 90-100mph, Does that mean we do? Nope probably not, we self regulate to keep within the speed limit or around 5 mph over. Why try to get someone to make you do something you already want to do. If we are passionate about something then it is just as much our responsibility to protect it on our own without having to be made to do it.

This by far the best answer so far

I’m definitely for a slot on big fish and only so many.
I think it is great to open discussion on it, before to much damage is done.
    Always best to be proactive
