I replaced my starting battery with a dual purpose battery from Batteries Plus for a little over $200. It will run the Live Scope, Helix 12" Chirp and live well for 8 hours and still start the outboard. For many years I have ran jumpers between the starting battery and one of the trolling motor batteries with disconnects on the positive and negative. When the starting battery was to weak to start the outboard I could jump it. I've not needed it since I bought this battery.

Most people just need to replace their old wiring or upgrade to something larger.

Old boats, for the most part, were never designed to have this much DC load on the bow of a boat. I too have an old boat and I ran a 6 gauge wire when I upgraded my troller to a 24 volt setup. I then used my old 10 gauge wire for the scope. I have no issues running my live well constantly on a timer and the scope for 8 hours with an $80 group 27 and staying well above 12 volts. A lot of wiring out there just needs to be replaced. DC voltage , oxygen, water and copper dont mix well over a decade or so. Moisture will creep up the copper wiring and lose its efficiency and conductivity and thats not even considering the length run for voltage loss. I still keep a cheap jump box with me just in case, and I would recommend everyone pick one of these up, especially if you spend a lot of your time on the AR river.
