This week work began on renovating Lake Conway's boat trail system. We expect the contractor to complete roughly half of the boat trails this time around. Additional work will be completed next fiscal year. This year's work will focus on the west side of the lake from Paradise Landing up though Caney Creek. While work is in progress, use caution while in the boat trails, new and old. While some of the new trials may be marked, the stump cutting is still in progress and not completed. We expect this work to continue for the next couple of weeks. Be safe!

Does this machine cut or grind the stumps. If it cuts them off, are they just let lay? Second question, when will the report on wood verses plastic structure
be completed and published?
Tell'em I'll be there.
The machine cuts the stumps underwater up to 10 feet deep. If it sinks, we let it lay for fish habitat. If it floats, we haul to back to the bank and will load them up and bring back to the office to burn. We are in the middle of year three of the project. We have a couple of summer samples and fall samples to complete before we can look at the data. At that point, we will decide if we e need to continue to collect data or end the project and write a report.

I have not witnessed any boat races on Lake Conway. Sounds interesting though. Gindog are you sponsoring it? I figure with sports being suspended during this pandemic, you guys maybe looking for something new to put on TV.
Welcome to the home of the, boat eating, trolling motor busting, prop bending, lower unit smashing, stump filled mud hole called Lake Conway.

I bet it look like the drone racing that they have in stadiums. Every once you have one bounce off the wall. Here you go out on old stump YouTube

Eleven straight days of 80+ hour weeks and Phase 1 of the Lake Conway boat trail/stump cutting project is complete. I would be lying if I said it was a good time. But it does feel good to get this part done. We made it from Paradise Landing up to Gold Lake. Not as far as we would have like to have made it but we ran out of money. We used LiveScope and two side scan units to make sure all of the stumps were cut from the trails. I’m sure we may have missed 1 or 2 though. But it is better than it was. We will be going back to the drawling board on this project. It did not go as planned. But I guess a project like this you don’t really know what you are getting into until you are doing it. Y’all be safe out there and catch some fish!
