Default Question for D10 and/or others

When fishing in size restriction body of water, especially when fishing deep, what happens if you can’t get fish to swim off?

    Can you keep?

How is the best way to revive a deep catch? What if you can’t?

I want to fish Beaver that has 10” minimum but unsure of best practices in winter/deep water.

Can't keep undersized fish period . Try rigging up a line with a weight and a clip to help them swim back down when fishing real deep .

    found this online
Use a descending device — an inverted barbless hook with a weight. With this device, secure the weighted hook in the lip, allow the weighted hook to carry the fish to the desired depth, and release the fish with a sharp tug on the line.

You can not keep a short fish for any reason. If you pull a fish from deep water and it doesn’t want to swim down, it is because it’s swim bladder is full of air. You can read about several techniques on line about this topic and can even find some YouTube videos. The most common technique is “fizzing” the fish. This technique involves sticking a needle through the side of the fish into its swim bladder to relieve the pressure. This is hard to explain in words but fairly easy to understand by watching videos. All of the AGFC offices with fish biologists should have the proper needles on hand. We have a box at the Mayflower Office that we give to anglers who request them. The important part about fizzing fish, is that you do it properly to avoid other important organs. It won’t do the fish any good if you stick a needle though a vital organ. Look for videos that show how to use this technique through the side of the fish and not the throat. If the local office in NWA does have any needles on hand and you want some, let me know and I will send you a few. Thanks.

Good to know. Glad I asked.
I would prefer to only catch keepers and find them holding in the 4-12 fow but......
I think I’ll hit up the local office and try the fizzing.

    Thanks guys

A lot of lakes in Texas make you keep all crappie you catch in winter months. Different rules for winter and summer

I have my own opinions about fizzing fish, if done properly I am sure it works to get them to go down. And if they go out of sight then die, Well I guess turtle have to eat also.
