    Default White River Trout Fishing

I've always wanted to go trout fishing on the White River.... I have a question please.

Many of the guys use a 20' trout boat, but I can't afford another boat at this time.

How would a 1648 (16' x 48" wide) aluminum boat handle on the White River?

Surely, with thousands fishing that river every year, only a small number have a 20' boat.

    Thanks

I used to fish it in a 14’ flat bottom with an old Mercury 9.8. Worked fine for me.

Yes, you should be fine in most areas. Just pay close attention to water rising and falling.

If going thru skinny water try and stay in the "chute".. Might bring a spare prop if you have it.. You're going to hit rock.

It's a blast and the fishing is almost always pretty good.

Your boat will work fine as long as they are generating from the dam. Trout anglers use the 20’ fiberglass boats because they draft very shallow and it they were to drag over a shoal, it slides right over. Aluminum does slide very well. I know this fro experience!

I fish at Sportsman resort on the White river, went to the catch and release area by the dam and had nice big trout caught on jigs. Used barb less hooks drifting down the river with shrimp. Great time.

We have been fishing the white river at Cotter, Norfork, and Calico Rock, in a twenty ft trout boat, the last four or five days. Currently the river is high(six to eight and half foot at Calico) You are good at those heights. Just google white river stage at Calico Rock and if there is at lest six foot there you will be fine. Yesterday, I saw a 18 foot Bass tracker with a 90 horse.

We put the hunting bows away today and chased Rainbows. I saw a big 'ole deep-v up at Calico. Pretty sure he had a jet. She's high and rolling pretty good. We managed a real nice double limit in just under three hours. We are spoiled, because the fifty fish mornings make the ten fish mornings seem awful...

That's an Alumacraft Crappie Jon (14') , with a 20hp Yamaha. It has been fantastic for the two of us. Three in the boat is a bit much, but still gets the job done.

I've been looking for a new Alumacraft, and hopefully just found one.
