Default My day at Blue Mountain

Took my father-in-law to Blue Mt today hoping to catch a mess of fish. Purchased a new boat so I also had to buy two 4 pole rod holders so we could spider rig. Also purchased a new 12' pole and new reel. I now have one 4 pole rode holder and one 3 pole rod holder minus the new pole and reel, they all took a swim. Ended up catching 2 nice sized crappie. Still a better day than having to work.

Welcome aboard CDC. Can't load the boat every time. You are braver than me with this heat.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

Welcome from Batesville. I'm not sure how the rod holder came off, but I keep a piece of 10 inch long foam pipe insulation taped onto my rods in front of the reels so they will float if they get dropped into the lake. Which has happened more than once by the way.

I may not know what I'm doing but I haven't had any luck on that lake spider rigging after the spawn. Now fishing structure is a different story.

Thanks for all of the welcomes. My father in-law suffered a stroke last January so he isn't allowed to operate a vehicle. I do my best to take him out fishing as much as I can. He has gained most functions back but there are times you can tell he isn't 100%. The problem is that he only wants to spider line which I know nothing about. My boat only had a single pedestal so I bought a side kick set up and the two t bar 4 pole rod holders. I prefer to crappie dob but I am willing to learn about spider lining. Thanks for the tip on the foam, I'll be adding that to my poles before the next trip out. plus I'm going to improve how to holders attach. If I don't I may run out of poles............
Planning on camping at blue mt the 18th thru the 22nd. Wish me luck!

Stay with him dude!! I had a spinal fusion last Sept. All was going well until this March, then I became paralyzed. Found out from Neurologist I had had a stroke and didnt know it. Now, with therapy, recovered and can do most things (the KEY WORD there is MOST). I will be 70 in December. Take him fishing, bear with him, and love him while he is still here. Maybe, you can get him a thump down the line and he will forget about spider rigging immediately, hehehehe.

The main thing is love him and take him fishing. Who cares about the catch, just care about your FIL.
