    Default Hot Springs, Lake Hamilton

I am going to Hot Springs July 4-6th and am thinking about taking my boat. How is the fishing there? Maily looking for crappie. I have been there several times, but do not know much about the lake as far as fishing. Any help is appreciated and if you feel like throwing some ideas on where to fish out too, that is great!

I get to stay there three times a year in a friends house and have so for four or five years now. I have to say, I used to take my boat there, but the traffic is so bad on holidays I don't anymore. The jet skiers and holiday gapers start early which will leave you just an hour or so of daylight to fish before it becomes a mad house.

Not just that, It kicks my butt every time when it comes to Crappie. Lots of awesome cover I have marked there, but never any fish on it. I know a lot of guys have success shooting docks there and using floats around the docks, but there is a reason you cant find a guide that will take you Crappie fishing there in the summer. Theyre all headed to Greeson or Ouachita, which is what I would recommend. Now you can fish some colored, beaded spinners with long Night Crawlers or live Crayfish hanging and catch Spots, Whites and Hybrids in deep holes in the lake and catch them on top water in the southern part of the lake on long shallow points. The spinners and night crawlers are intended for Walleye, but I haven't had ANY luck finding them, but have seen pictures where some do.

There are big Crappie in that lake and quite a few vids on you tube showing a fellow tearing them up there on docks using a float.

All I can say is fish a lot of docks and possible do something exactly opposite of what I am doing

Thank you all. Just made up my mind to just go and enjoy life and the wife and not take the boat. I appreciate the comments. I ate at Fisherman’s WArf last time and there were fish eating what people were throwing in but I could not even find a perch on the dock of the condo. I think all fish are hanging out at the restaurants. Haha. Much appreciated.

Where are you staying? We have stayed at Sunbay Resort. I was just playing around with the kids fishing off the dock with crickets and ended up catching an ice chest full of huge bluegills, redears, and small catfish. Caught a dang good box of fish right there sitting in a green metal chair off their dock. Will never forget that Saturday afternoon.

Every summer from the time I was born until I was 16 I spent a week at Emerald Isle on Lake Hamilton.

I always took my zebco 33 and threw out hotdogs, crickets, corn, or bread on a wire hook. The fishing sucked. Out of all those years I only had one good one and that was catching bream around the dock with crickets. Other than that the most exciting moment was almost landing a small gar.

I wouldn't waste any time fishing it.

Rented a little cabin up near the Cajan Restarant. Forget the name. We are on the lake, but I think I may just take a pole instead. LOL

Sounds like a good choice to me.

Went to Fishermans Wharf last weekend.....ordered two drinks and appitizer....and before they could get the order to the kitchen.....power went out on the inside....and that was it for the night ,

Wound up going to a place called "Bones Chophouse". Was a lil pricey but very good.....may want to give it a try, special that night was Grouper and it was dang good

If we’re recommending restaurants, try Steinhaus Keller, excellent German food. It’s downtown in Spencer’s Corner. Probably best to make a reservation on a holiday weekend. They have a $20 sampler plate that will feed 2, and German beer on tap.

Another good one for home cooking and huge portions is Phil’s, it’s on Central across from the racetrack parking lot.
