Default A little bitter with the sweet

Going all the way back to pre-spawn - fishing has really been good this year. We were still finding a lot of fish in 4-7 ft. of water - 4-6 weeks after the spawn - mostly catching spawned out females. However that shallow bite had slowed down the past 2 trips. Now for the bitter- couple weeks ago driving home - I heard somewhat of a grinding noise around the trailer - you guessed it - the bearings had gone out. Had to completely replace the axle, hubs, and spindles- I think I overgreased the bearing and blew out the rear seal. Leaving in a couple of days for a camping trip at Quarry Dam campsite below the Norfork dam - probably spend a little time on the Buffalo and White River - looking forward to good food and good times with our son and his family.Name: 20190515_161327.jpg

Sometimes buying a whole axle with hubs and all cheaper in the long run if you damage very bad . Need to repack bearings every year but some use buddy bearing covers and over grease blow the seals .

Hate to hear about trailer bearings going out, Glad it didn't cause anymore damage. I change my seals and bearings yearly in all my trailers for peace of mind, don't care for the buddy bearing system. some folks swear by them but i have seen plenty of damaged trailers that had them.

Bearing buddies give a false sense of security. It’s almost impossible for the back bearing to get grease when there is a flat washer as large or larger in front of the front bearing.

Great pictures! I’m jealous. Wish I was going to Buffalo City to fish the White and Lower Buffalo. I have friends who will be putting on at Rush in a couple of days and taking out at Shipps Ferry. Best time of the year to catch big smallies!

Sorry about the bearings Richard but otherwise a great post and pics. I carry an infrared thermometer with a laser pointer ($15 on Amazon) in my truck and any time I'm pulling my boat, or any trailer for that matter, when I stop for fuel or a Walmart run, I will shoot a temp reading of the hub near the seal. When it reads a few degrees above the outside air temp it's the first sign of potential trouble but well ahead of major repairs. By the way, I love the upper white river and Buffalo river area, I go there to hunt usually every fall and winter, beautiful.

Boat bearings need tlc or you’ll end up road side. My dad was in Mexico en route to guerrero and had an entire wheel come off a ranger. 10 or 15 mexicans picked the boat up off the trailer and set it on the ground while they put an axle on it and he was back in action. Then when he made it to the lake he ran into another member of the maumelle bass club who had been there since the previous year’s tournament.A little bitter with the sweet
