    Default Lake Fayetteville

Hey guys, I've been trying to catch some crappie on Lake Fayetteville, but haven't had much luck. I'd really appreciate any advice.

Yesterday I took the boat out for an hour and a half and was only able to catch one. When I got to the lake I stopped by the office and picked up some minnows. The girl working told me they had been catching crappie off the dam. So I hopped in the boat and trolled up and down the dam hoping to mark some fish.

(That was the first time I've really tried to find fish on the depth finder. For reference, I have an old cheap black and white hummingbird piranha. Maybe that's part of the problem?)

The crappie I caught was in about 6ft of water between Cove 1 and the dam on a submerged vertical tree. I thought I had found them so I fished that tree a little more and then continued to fish trees and stumps on the bank.

I didn't have much time so I wasn't able to fish more than the dam, water intake tower, and Cove 1.

Is anyone familiar with this lake that could help me catch dinner? Thanks!

Not familiar with that lake but they should be deeper right now on most lakes . Even more so if water is anything but muddy with this bright sunshine and high pressure days .

    Thanks, Nimrod.

I went back last night and was able to catch 2. One in a few feet of water next to the dam rocks. The other in a few feet of water on a dirt bank next to a 20' drop.

I drove around the lake trying to mark some on the deep side, but didn't have any luck. It's my first time really trying it and I'm working with an old black and white 2d sonar - so I'd expect about as much.

Look up the AGFC Rogers Field Office on line and talk to Jon Stein, the district Fisheries biologist. He will probably have a suggestion or two for you.

Have you tried Wilson Lake? Its not so big so you have a somewhat captive audience. I used a chartruse jig, followed the shoreline all the way around, and got 5 keepers in about 2 hours. The south end is shallow and full vegetation if you like red ear brim. Gets busy there on weekends but I have had place to myself several times during the week

I haven't. Thanks for the tip though! I may check it out sometime. I've been going to Lake Fayetteville because it's just a few minutes from my house.

There is an old Krappie King’s episode on lake sequoyah. Might try that one.
