    Default Also not a crappie

I know that this isn’t everyone’s favorite species on this forum but check out this beast. Last night I worked the Striped Bass brood stock collection project on Lake Ouachita. We saw a lot of Stripers. This one was too big of a fish to send to the hatchery. So we took a quick pick and threw her back. I’m not sure of the exact weight but it would not surprise me if it were 50+ pounds. There is something about big fish like that.

I don’t think any of the poles I own are stout enough for a fish like that.

So D10, can you explain this process? I mean start to finish. I was told the other day that the big females they shock up at White Oak are taken to the hatchery and used as brood stock, then when they are done with them, they are taken and released in other lakes. And this is why DeGray has seen some 10 plus pounders this year because some of the giant brood females were released there. Any truth to this or is it just barbershop talk?

I'd love to hook into something like that, nowhere around me has stripers

Are you talking about Striped Bass or Largemouth Bass. Different species have different spawning projects. Thanks.
