Default Question about spawning crappie and heavy moss.

Tried Beaverfork today...and every flat has really thick heavy moss till you get out to about 4-5ft deep. I'm just curious as to whether the crappie will spawn in that moss? I caught one nice fish in the edge of the moss. I tried vertical jigging down in it... but it was not productive. I sure didn't find them in the moss...or anywhere else...but just trying to learn. I've never read anywhere that crappie spawn in mossy muck.....so I'm guessing no.

How 'bout it? Will crappie spawn in moss?

What you are seeing is filamentous algae. It is covering the shallow areas of most of the lakes in central Arkansas right now. When we have wet springs, like this year, the algae is worse. Last night on a lake we were sampling for bass, we saw thousands of spawning crappie in water willow that was covered by filamentous algae. They were definitely spawning around the algae covered plants.
