It's best spider rigged in my opinion. But it currently has issues. It's been over fished the past few years. The crappie numbers are still ok but the population is mostly young fish.
Hey guys new to the site. Glad to be here. I have questions about lake hogue at waldenburg. I have fished it a couple times with little success. Is it a more of a spider rigging lake or do u need to jig fish the trees? It's my closest option since Poinsett got drained and wappanocca isn't open early in the year. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I'd rather be fishing.
Thank you. That helps. The couple times I tried it was fishing in trees and brush Just couldn't seem to find them. Drove by it yesterday and it was still solid ice.
yep. It's like most lakes around here that have gone through cycles of good and bad over the years. It started life as flooded low ground timber with a slough that ran through it. As part of it's construction, dozers were used to push down timber around most of it's perimeter and form boat lanes through it's interior. The majority of the timber is now long since gone but if you identify the slough and it's adjacent flats, you'll be in tune with how fish relate to the lake.

CrappieNEA We lived in Jonesboro until 1998 but didn't fish Houge that much. However I do remember fishing the deeper slough that sliderman mentioned, especially in the winter. Good luck and welcome to Crappie.com from NW Ark
Well gave it a go this afternoon. Lots of little fish. Only 2 that were close to keepers. Felt good to get out and catch a few though. Ended up a catch and release day but oh well.
Glad you had an enjoyable trip. You don’t know till you go.

Those "young" fish may actually be stunted old fish. Please remove as many of those short fish as possible. It will make the size better for everyone in the future. I haven't actually verified young, or stunted, but am going by what others have told me about the lake. I'll check myself in the not too distant future.
