I do believe this is my favorite time of year to Fish for our Arkansas Crappies. October, with its turning Color and cooler temps, is just a perfect time to find fish.
As we all know... and understand that .......Crappie head to the Creeks on certain lakes following the bounty of Shad. Look at the head of creeks for the Shad popping around. The Crappie are there too and moving on up the creeks. Every fish I Caught and cleaned was just bustin with a belly full of Shad. They are gorging on them right now. The water is dropping in temps with these 40's at night. They are getting ready for winter.
I caught these Shallow and Deep in shady areas of cover with Bluebird skies. Tube jigs in Pearl Green and Chartreuse. Red 1/16" oz heads with white eyes and black dot. 10 foot Jig pole single line attack mode.
Get out there and do Crappie Work !!!
God Bless us all...

Fishing is good for all the guys who aren't messing around with hunting this time of year, like I do. But I do have fond memories of hunting White River Refuge when I was a kid in October. We would hunt until about 10 in the morning then get in the boat and fish for about 4 hours, then get back on our stands and hunt till dark. Many times we would both kill deer and catch limits of crappie in the same day.
