    Default Current River

Anyone fished current river between the state line and black river? I think me and the family are gonna give it a try tommorrow and was just wondering what the fishing was like. Ive only been on that river maybe a couple of times and we where rough fish gigging up close to the Missouri line. From biggers/reno to black river looks fishy to me.... Any help would be appreciated!

never fished it. where do you put in? i've seen a game and fish sign up about biggers but never been to it. and since you've been on it do you have to have a jet drive motor in that part of the river?

well ive never actually put my boat in it. i got a buddy that puts in at hwy 62 bridge and he has no problem with a regular prop. he said theres a private ramp and for 5 bucks you can put in. he dont fish it. him and his family go over there alot on weekends and swim. he talks alot about the jet boats but he said you dont need one? pretty close to where i live. id like to learn more about it just never gave it much thought till now.

is the private ramp you talk about south of the bridge at that "camp?" or north down that gravel road? i've fished the black a very few times last winter when the river was low and put in at the place there by biggers turn off to the right. i forget the name of the place and along about the same area was a sign to the left for the current river.

I believe the private pay ramp is just north of the bridge. yeah i know there is more i think agfc ramps north of the bridge in the biggers/reno area but never been to them. there's fish to be caught there i just need to go learn and check it out. the place on black river you are talking about is shaffers eddie, and thats some good fishing in that area too. i prefer to fish the black when its around 4ft. or less and steady on the corning gauge. i will let you know what i find out on the current river if your interested.

The private ramp is north of the bridge on the gravel road. You are good there with a prop. Lots of traffic on the weekend. The next launch up river is public. I've only fished there once but I did it with my flat bottom and 25hp prop without many problems. There are some logs in the river you will need to look out for but that's pretty much any river.

Haven't crappie fished there but did catch a few bass about this time a year ago. Been thinking about heading back up that way...let us know how you do.

I fish the parts of Current River you're talking about. What I watch is the river level at Doniphan, MO. As far as I know that's the closest location posting river stages. You want the volume to be less that 2000 cubic feet per second. And you want the level to be below 1 foot. That's not a perfect system, but it'll get you close. Once on the river dead/still water is a little difficult to come by. When you find it, you're hovering over crappie. Go get em'!
