Default Ode to my duck hunting friends

Twas the day before duck season
    and all through State,
The hunters were scurrying to get ready
    they had waited too late.

    The waders were leaking
    and needing to be patched
    The dog is gone
the kennel had missed getting latched

    Back last summer
we said there was no need of rushing
    The opener is tomorrow
And those blinds still need brushing

What's that rattle in that decoy?
and some are broken and rotten.
    We throw those out tomorrow,
and they'll head for the bottom.

    A quick trip to Walmart
    gotta by some ammo,
    Check the blind bag out
and its full of blaze orange and no camo.

    So it's back to Walmart
    for the dozenth time
    My shopping for duck season
    has no reason or rhyme.

So it's up and down the isle's
    trying to get ready
    Getting needed stuff
Like toilet paper and Little Debbies

    Back home we go
    for the next chore
To get ready for season tomorrow
will take a week maybe more.

    The boat has been setting
    out under a tree
Full of limbs, leaves, and stuff
    we've been intending to heave

So we hook to the trailer
and off we go with the boat
    It probably won't run,
    It may not even float.

    But it's duck season
    it happens every year
but next time we'll try to be ready
    before it's so near.

Be glad when all those folks go duck hunting and get out of the deer woods.
Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I was one of them. Passed you about 2:30 over close to the drain pipe and you asked how I was doing. Didn't know who you were. Said I had 10 and you told me you needed three more for a limit. I finished with 21 and Wayne told me you were out there while I was packing to leave. Will say hi next time. I am the same dude that called you Craig on another post the other day

Well, it was nice meeting you. Wayne told me somebody had left with a good mess, and that person had torn up a nice Lowrance unit last week. I remembered your post about your mishap at Dano's and I put it together. Anyway, 21 is a nice mess, WTG!
