Not much of a movie buff, but one I thought was kinda suspenseful and thought provoking was The Book of Eli. Set in the future in a apoctilipic setting.

    Classics:

    Godfather
    Godfather II

    Lesser known:

The Spanish Prisoner (Campbell Scott, Steve Martin) - not a comedy. Amazing plot.
Deathtrap (Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve) - Amazing murder mystery/whodunit

    Creepy/scary (recent)

The Witch - set in Puritan times. Very well done with creepy kids and creepy goat.
Hereditary - woman finds out scary facts about her late mother.
A Cure for Wellness - man goes to Switzerland spa to bring back his boss. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
Devil (Five people stuck in an elevator. One of them is the Devil. Things don't go well for the other four.)

    Funny:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
    Monty Python's Life of Brian
    Airplane!
    Hot Shots!
    Hot Shots, Part Deux
    Naked Gun 1-3
    Borat
    Bruno

(Those last two have well-deserved R ratings.)

    Apocalyptic:

Twelve Monkeys - virus wipes out most of humanity. Bruce Willis goes back in time to find the cure.

    Sci Fi:

The Andromeda Strain (original, not the TV series) - satellite falls to earth and brings deadly virus. Intrepid scientists search for the cure.
Blade Runner - arguably the best sci fi movie ever made
The Fifth Element - very entertaining. Great cast featuring Bruce Willis. Chris Tucker almost steals the show.
