Some recent success with Q beams...all within the last month...well since March 30, 2012 except for the last pic. Two man limits in both photos.
I also went friday night with a four man crew, was 11 fish short of a 4 man (ok 2 men a child and my mom) limit, but went through 3/4lb of minnows with over 200 total caught. Over 500 caught between that trip and the two pictured below. The last photo is a 2lb 6oz from Jan 2009.

Year round. Follow the bait. In my above post, the 2lb 6oz was caught in the dead of winter, and I would have frozen my tail off had we not been in a creek where the power plant discharges the warm water. We tried another creek that night, but it seemed as if nothing at all was there.

Take a long handled minnow net. Once the light has been deployed over the water for 30 minutes you will be able to catch live minnows to use as bait as you need them straight out of the lake.

Another good way is to use a treble hook and snag one. Then cast it out just past the lights. This has been very successful for us over the years.

    Ship,

I only get to bed by 4am! LOL But I sure like fishing at twilight and after dark! I tried a daybreak start this summer, but the bite stops as soon as the sun comes out! .... maybe 6am. That's too short a bite window for me.

I have great success with Gulp Alive minnows 2 1/2" smelt, and I hook them on a 1/32 oz white minnow shape head jig.

I don't use lights. I kick around in my pontoon float tube with a fish finder. I use my UL spin outfit or my B&M 12'er to dangle the Gulp minnow a couple feet off the bottom.

I have such great success with the plastic, I don't have to use live bait!
