Here is a picture to help explain. You would have the exact same setup off the other side of the boat. I even used yellow line. haha. I hope this helps

I started longlining last year in Alabama after hiring a guide that came highly suggested from this site and he didnt have any fancy equipment, longlining was the method he used with us. We didnt catch much fish, but I learned a lot and saw other that were not heavily invested in equipment.

Keep in mind we have a 3 rod per angler limit and my budget is limited so I didnt buy any new special equipment ( rods, holders etc...), just used what I had, 6 ft spincast & spinning rods, 6lb hi vis line and some 1/16 or 1/32 oz jigs, Southern Pro 2 inch Hot Grubs, a 14' boat with a trolling motor and used the tips I read on Crappie.com. We caught several and its addicting. My suggestion is just be on the water and try try try until you find what works for you.

This year I will add a couple rod holders to improve my situation. Basically I got tired of holding rods and trying to run the trolling motor ( not ipilot ). Also I have spent the winter collecting jig heads, plastics and living on crappie.com.

But what is even more fun than longling is shooting docks, again somewhat inexpensive to get into, but hours of fun.

Yeah, going with somebody who does long lining will help a lot. You can learn so much.
