Time? depending on moon phase and current but our best times have been the first three hours after dark or after they stop pulling alot of current
Full Moon? last quarter or new moon for me
    Bank vs Boat? Boat
Live bait? Yes sir, so far the best
    Aritiical bait? Nope
    Black Lights? Nope
Cap Lights? Cheap adjustable, white light
    Types of fish?
Depths? 18'-30' somewhere on a drop
    Docks? Not for me
Ice fishing? Water does not freeze in Bama
Bass? Have not caught any crappie fishing
    Crappie?
    Walleyes?
Stripers? Can't keep them off in some lakes
Other equipment - I like a 10'-12' rod because we are normally fishing 8'-12' deep. These rods make it easy to get back to the same depth.
    Etc:
    Green lights work great

    Tip#1
Find fish and set-up close to them instead of setting up and trying to get the fish to come to you. If fish are comfortable in an area, they will be easier to catch.

Some other thoughts above in red and green. I am no expert by know means but I am working on it.

    Tip#3
All colors lights if intense enough will work.
Example: White will work if intense enough.
The following colors have been proven by
    people with degrees.

The preferred color for freshwater is Green
The referred color for salt water is Blue

    I'm a believer.

Been on trips with just a white light and got good results of attracting baitfish.
Used same white light with a green light on opposite side of boat and the green light brought in 4x the baitfish.

    Tip #4

Get out of the bed at 4am and be on your favorite lake fishing by 5:30. Use a jig that has chartreuseand in it. At night wear mosquito repellant and use Bob#1's fishing light to attract baitfish. Again use a chartreuseand jig to limit out.

I like to night fish on the moon cycle provided in the old farmers almanac.
I've been using two blue 100W 12vdc florescent lights hung over the side of the boat for the past year or so. I can't submerge them, so they haven't provided great results, I must add.
I mainly fish the same bridge pilings in a creek channel in 32 feet of water. There are some trees between the pilings and big rocks that line the bank on both ends of the bridge. When the water is running I have caught the limit many time both day and night under this bridge.
I just received two of the green reel lites yesterday. I'm taking the grandson out this coming Saturday night to give the new lights a try. I normally use live bait but it's been so hot there may not be any available, we'll see.

P.S. Hey Bob, The lights look real good. I can't wait to try them. I'll be ordering a pair of the 75 bulb, soon.
    Thanks,
    DB

    Tip #5

Spool your reels with Fluorescent Mono filament line
Black light will make the line glow and look like the size of pencil. Some of
the popular brands are Berkley which makes a great flame green fire line
florescent line that works well with black light night fishing as well.

The reason this particular line works so well is that the florescent coloring is
not painted on the line, but rather is chemically mixed into the actual line
during production, which means the color lasts much longer than other
    brands.

Time? Dusk and 3-5 hours after
Full Moon? Best night I had was a waning gibbous, Full or New moons also productive
Bank vs Boat? So far… bank.
Live bait? Crawler pieces, leeches when I run out of crawlers
Aritiical bait? Tubes if any, rare though
    Black Lights? nope
Cap Lights? Yep, white light, dim and bright settings
Types of fish? Hooked into a 4’ musky at dusk with a crawler piece and circle hook crappie fishin.
    Depths? 6-10’
Docks? Sometimes they hang under my dock or my boat lift, but I usually cast out and let the crawler settle in and around the pondweed
Ice fishing? I’ll try in December. It’s a must in MN, too much of the year is winter… ugh. I miss VA.
    Bass? Sometimes
    Crappie? Yeah. Lots.
Walleyes? Even if they’re out there I stink at catching Walleyes. My friends snag em sometimes though.
Stripers? Nope. They don’t really exist in the lakes I fish.
Etc: I use a 5’ ultralight with a 1000 spinning reel, 4lb mono, with a lit slip float, circle hook, and split shot. If the bobber isn’t on there I have a finger on the line and use a small jig. Using lights to attract fish is not legal in MN. However, using lights to illuminate the posts of the boat lift and dock is fine...

Using a float at night can be fun, just make sure the light is strong enough and you are able to see the tip of the float move on those soft bites.
