I put some in there to get them started....I put about 200 in that big drink box....in a few months time I had a bunch. That was a couple of years ago...I have not bought a worm since.
do you put a few in there to get em started or will the worms come up from the ground through the holes.

Can you mix varieties of worms in your worm box? Like reds, maggots, nitecrawlers and wax worms? Or, are the needs of each different enough that this won't work?
That's what I was thinking, just wasn't sure...
I remember when I was about 10 or so and wanted to start my own 'worm bed'. I just had a stryofoam shiner bucket, and put in every worm I could dig up. I used to feed them corn meal all the time and water them a little here and there. Seemed to work fine as it lasted me a good long time...until I left it sitting beside the gas can once and I guess the fumes chased them all out and killed them. It was completely dead after that. Had a good run with it though. I'd let my son make one, but it'd drive my wife away from our house.....hmmmm may have to keep that in mind!! LOL.....
