    Default Crappie Spawn 09'

Crappie spawn on the Mississippi river (Pool 9) 09'.
I made it out twice boating a good number of healthy fish off as many beds. I took home a few to release in grease however the lions share went back in the river. I'm a big believer in catch & release especially during spawn cycles. Jigging BFishN Tackle pink dress flu flu's did a lot of damage as did a plain minnow lip hooked on a #8 on a slip bobber. I just love the dark contrast of the males during spawning activity.

What a hefty bunch o fish. I don't release too many unless they are small. Anything under 11" goes back, regardless of the time of year.

Crappie are such prolific breeders...it is just a non-issue to me.
