    Default Boat mechanic's??

Does anybody know of any good boat engine mechanics around Emporia? I am needing to figure out and fix my 1994 Evinrudr 50hp, it won't idle. I can get it started with it in neutral and giving it gas but when I start to back it out and get close to putting in into gear it just dies. My engine knowledge is very limited. I do know that it is a 2 carb. Thanks for any help.

Don't know of anyone there but had that problem. I was told I got some bad gas. They drained it flushed the old out and she has run good ever since. Assuming mine had water in it but watch out for the ethanol too. Good luck

Don't know of anyone around Emporia, but if you've got the time it would be worth it to let the guys at Smithville Marine check it out. They're an evinrude dealer and they have a great service department. If you can stand driving that far it would be worth it to let them check it out.

Change the fuel and run some seafoam in the gas. A cheap repair, seafoam will remove varnish that is in the carburetor.

You can get it at pretty much any parts store. I get mine at Napa.

I had much the same problem and it was the fuel pump. I would have a mechanic check it and then keep treated gas in the tank...just my .02 worth.

Remember "I" before "E," except in Budweiser

If the mentioned does not repair your problem. Google search for Iboat forums. The people there are veyr helpful and I am certain can assist you in fixing it yourself without the cost of a shop.
