    Question Fish... for tomorrow???

Went out today and got 14 crappie and 2 big gills in 2 hours, enough for me & my daughter for supper. Only problem, wife already had plans for supper.

Here is my question.... If you wanna keep filets in the fridge for a day without freezing, how do you all do it???

I put them in a zip bag filled with water and put them in the fridge. This is the way I do it when I freeze em, so figure it would be ok. Should I do something different?? Thanks - AtticaFish

I've read somewhere about keeping them in ice water for a day to help draw the blood out of the meat for a cleaner, better tasting filet. Seems to work fine for me. I usually just leave them overnight in the fridge in a large bowl with enough water to cover the fish. Hope you and the family enjoy your catch! Nice haul in 2 hours.

That will work fine. I put mine in a bowl and cover with water and sprinkle a little salt in the bowl. Just rinse them off when you are ready to fry.

I've kept fresh fish in water in a fridge in my barn for 5 or 6 days without freezing. After about 3-4 days I will change the water on them. They are fine. Usually I'll cook 'em within three days or freeze 'em.

You're good to go and it seems you have the ticket for providing supper, fer sur.

Sometimes I think crappie fishing is what makes the world go 'round.

This is all you need to do, make sure to wash them off, and the will taste like you just cleaned them!

I think the salt helps pull the blood out of the meat....
