    Default spoonplugging

I put this on a seperate post, did not want to take away from the
solemn nature of the original post - sorry to hear about Mr. Perry.
But Kygorski, you are spot-on about bass would be hurting if everybody
fished like that, and did not catch and release, anyway. Back several years
ago, a local weekly tournament here, a few guys were trolling Bagley DBIII's
for bass, and they were whuppin' up on folks so bad, the orginazation banned
trolling, more in line with most bass tournaments. Still seems like sour grapes
to me, but bass fishermen are a different sort, anyway. Hear of 'em getting
in fights over fishing each other's brush piles, and I think a lot of them are
more interested in the blast off drag race than the fishing. I forget who it
was, but heard a guide quoted one time, said he asked his clients at the
beginning of the trips, "do you want to bass fish, or catch bass?" In other
words, cast or troll. I still can't come to grips with why it can be acceptable
in walleye tourneys, and totally banned in bass fishing.

When the best trolling line was either dacron or nylon, and then no-bo mono, you could only think you felt your self ticking the tops of the weeds. With spider wire and a fair graphite rod, you can almost tell the size of the gravel, and you sure could control your depth with the line counter reels .Spoonplugging was work, and to me it became almost like a job, it worked, but thjen I went back to fun fishing , you know point pounding, visible structure, all the goodies, yes its easier, but there are more fishless trips.

I guess this may uncover that I am a little younger than some of you,
but what is no-bo mono? When I came of fishing age, Stren and Trilene
were already well entrenched, though I do pre-date "super lines"
I used to use 20# "green dot" dacron for worming bass, and I still have
a card of "mill ends" black dacron a dear old grandfather type figure left to me, along with his little metal tacklebox. Oh, and a Ray Scott signature
casting rod, fiberglass with the old metal handle and cork grip. Hard to
believe that thing was ever state of the art. Still got the Daiwa "millionaire"
reel that was on it when it was given to me too. Still loaded with dacron :D
