Walleyes are open from last weekend, till the middle of febuary next winter.
I have never fished southern MN for walleyes. I did catch some big ones last year in lake waconia, just west of Minneapolis. that is in the southern half anyways...

    Cool walleye

Pappy just got back tonight from a week at the walleye opener on red lake . I've fished it for the last 4 yrs. I've fished upper red lake. Great walley fishing and the crappies you catch are slabs. This week it snowed twice and we couldn't get out on the lake for a day and a half because of the wind. But bthe days you can get out you can catch 75 to 100 fish from 16 to 22 inches long. The slot is 17 to 26 inches that had to be thrown back. One day we caught 100 and didn't catch a fish under 17 for dinner. Owell. Its a great place to fish. We are going up for the second week next yr. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions pm me

    Default yep

    Baron,
We did catch a few crappies while slip bobbering for walleyes. Caught 4 and they average about 14 inches. We were right off hudaecs resort in 5 ft of water when we caught them.. Water temp was 53 degrees. I also caught one 38 inch northern trolling with a crank bait. My brother hooked one big one he never got in and caught a 36 trolling also. We stayed at the Big bog state park in the cabins. Got a confirmation this morning for may 16 thru the 23rd next year.
