    Default Number 8 Hook

I was wondering does anyone else use a 8# hook for crappie fishing besides myself. I just like how it fits the minnow.

Nope I use #1s and 2s. Bigger the bait the bigger the fish.

    Default Not me either.

Pretty much save the #8 in a bait hook style for crawlers when eye fishing.

I have a friend in TX that uses short shank #8 hooks with 1/8th jig head..He bends the point out a little...I've seen him catch some big fish with that little hook...

I bet you're able to catch gills with that #8 hook also...I find that gills have a hard time getting my #1 hook in their mouth and they generally just suck the scales off my minnow....unless it's a BIG gill....

I use 8's when i fish with the mini spoons for bluegills. I'll tip with a nibble, waxworm, or maggot. Bend the hook out a little and it gets them in the roof of their mouth consistently.

I use #8 jig hooks when pouring 1/64 and 1/80oz. jigs. Tie these little jokers with marabou in various colors and they are hard to beat when jiging under a cork for crappie and bluegills.

I get nervous when I am forced to go down to a size 6 by some of the jig manufacturers. I am more comfortable with size 4 and 2. Number 2 gold light wire is my favorite minnow hook. We use size 6 light wire for bream fishing. Some flies we use bream fishing have a size 10 hook. I would worry about the thickness of the minnow impeding the hookset with a number 8. Guess it must work for you. jimmy
