Default A couple of crankbait questions.

Is it ok to turn front racks sideways and troll from front?

If not, how hard is running a 90 HP 2 stroke at idle all day?

I have pulled off the side from the front before, just make sure your holders are strong and tight. I also have a 90hp and found it takes a 48" driftsock or bigger to slow the boat down to the 1.5 -2.0 range. I use a water ski harness that I hook it to so that it drags straight off the back when I use the big motor. The motor runs fine but I clear her on out on the way back to the ramp just to be sure I still prefer the troller with planer boards just to be sneaky.

I have a 4 holder Driftmaster bar in front for spiderrigging and also have 4 screw-in mounts on the side front of my boat and I remove the bar and mount the holders in those mounts and troll crankbaits from the front with my TM. I have an older 115 Mercury which I'm sure would load up as well as being too fast so I use the TM which works just fine.

I troll from the front most of the time, but like Yikess I use the troll plate.

SteveJ if I ever get a chance to meet you then I owe you a beer. Like you, I also use the Driftmaster T-Bar system for slow trolling and never even considered trying to put a rod holder directly into the base. You'll notice that I threw away the silly wingnut that came with it and replaced it with a locking 9/16" nut to hold it in place. This setup will be awesome for my 5th (downpole) when fishing the MS big four that have rod limitations. I prefer to pull four rods across the back when cranking with the inside two being straight back and the outside two on planer boards. I look forward to trying it on Lake Greeson this weekend at the AR Spring Camp.:D
