Thumbs down going to be sick.........

The ECU went out in my motor. A new ECU from Mercury cost $1500. A used one is about $1200. Total cost with labor well over $2500. Going to be sick.

Don't see how lack of oil could have possibly hurt the ECU, if that is
what I'm thinking it is (on board computer?) just coincidence that it
happened then? Dad gum, I hate stuff I can't fix myself!
I will keep old ugly ready, so don't sweat missing a trip, if that is any
    consolation, probably not enough :p

had nothing to do with oil. Unless I stressed it when I added too much oil. Non the less, a sad, sad, sad day for me. WIll be without a boat for a very long time looks like. Have some serious deciding to do. Like rebuilding, going with a used ecu, trading motor, trading entire boat. Who knows. Whatever I decide, won't be real soon.

know any details about it, probably not very nice, but a thought anyway.

Wow, thank you uso much. I appreciate the offer, but could never do anything like that. I would be so nervous in your boat or anyone elses boat for that matter. But the offer is amazing, thanks.

I will find someone to fish with, have lots of friends. So far, I have finished 1st and 2nd in the tournaments, and hoped to keep that alive. But don't know how I will do without being able to pre-fish. Talked with the mrs. today about my situation and we are now talking about just dropping money on a different-newer motor. I had about $700 of work done on this one 2 months ago, now this. Just don't trust it now. Never would trust it on a long run after this. Looking at trading this motor to the guys who have worked on it for a newer-used motor. Still talking about it though. Don't want to make a rush decision about it. I told Christy(my wife) that I would be willing to wait a while to make this purchase because we just broke ground today on our new house. She looked at me and said ...."we are going to doing something soon. I don't know if I can live with you not having a boat". ....I remembered all of a sudden why I love her so much.

somebody should post this in the archives -
where else would you see something like this? Even with bikers, you can
have their old lady, or help yourself to their party favors, but not their
"horse" Crappie fishermen are the best! I was toying around with the idea
of passing the hat for a new ECU for David, enough people, and it wouldn't
be much each... but it would probably be better handled by someone more
involved in SACA - let me know where to send it! was so excited by that,
I just now finished reading David's post, don't blame you, once (twice) bitten
I'd be wary too, but the offer still stands. Jeff

well, here is NOW what I am leaning to. I have looked online, also looked at new and used boats. It look slike the most economical way for me to rememdy this situation right now is to replace the ECU with a new one. We just broke ground and poored the footings on our new house Thursday. I don't have the money to purchase a newer boat. Any other way I would be out of a boat for several months, say 6-9. I can't do that. I hope to get this boat in running condition and use it for a year or so, then look for a trade. I don't want to put another motor on it simply because i won't get my money back on it. So, looks like just putting the new ECU is the right answer for me right now.

I still love my boat, though.
