Whiteside - MDC Lake

My brother-in-law was in from Pittsburgh, PA, staying in St. Charles and wanted to go fishing. Took him to Whiteside as it was the closest lake I could think of.. My wife and I had caught some nice slabs out of the lake last summer. We caught crappie - but very small, could not find the slabs. also, caught a few red ear.

I fished there for about two hours last Friday (from the bank) and didn't get a bite. Talked to a guy and his wife who had been out in a boat and they said they hadn't had much luck either. They did say the water temp was about 65 degrees.

I have only fished there once before with a boat and didn't do too well then either. I do like the looks of the lake with all the trees sticking up. Looks fishy.
What time of year was it when you caught your fish?

We went in August and caught the fish right off the lily pads (between the end of the pads and the stick ups). Every one was a keeper...
