    Default Woods Reservoir April 30th

I went to Woods today, just me and my dog Beau. I was late deciding to go and didnt get on the water till 10:15. Missed most the morning bite but was able to pick up one here and there. Man was it ever windy till this afternoon. Fish was all caught on cover and from inside brushpiles till the evening bite. Just needed to throw over the brush piles and drop offs with a jig and picked up fish over and over. All together I caught 19 crappie, 3 stripe and 3 bluegill. Had a blast and got a tan to boot.

Wanted to also say, I caught my fish in deep water, 18 to 35 feet deep. Several in the bunch that has eggs in them. Non of the fish had bulging sides ready to bust with eggs though.Caught fish this morning on jigs tipped with minnow jigging just up off bottom and this evening off a 3/16 black and shartruse.

Great job Toby.. How do you get your jig down that deep? Nice looking fish. I still think that you are cheating having a fishing dog to smell them out and point them for you.

I was drop shotting using either a Kentucky rig or crappie rig. Used a 1/2 ounce drop weight to feel for the brush and bottom and then just cranked back up some. You get hung up alot but was worth it when you are catching fish. I use sometimes what they sell at the store a 2 minnow rigged crappie rig because its alot quicker to get going with.

Nice catch. We need to go again soon. My deep water tactics stink.
