Default New Contest - Write a Poem about Fishing

You can thank "Father of 4" for this idea. Our next contest will be a Poem contest. So, start working on it now, it'll go through next month (end of May). I'll take pictures of prizes for this contest shortly. It'll be sponsored by Lindy and Add-A-Seat.

This time, PM me your poem. You can even post it here. It does have to be original. Think about it, write it yourself, have fun with it.

Prizes for all the other contests have finally been sent (yes I am slow to send them, but I do send them).

Again, I reserve the right to change the rules of this contest at any time. Again, I'm just trying to give away sponsors products the fairest way possible.

What's a Good Line for Crappie?

I have a question for you all,
Young and old, short and tall.
This question is profound. This question is deep.
Until I get an answer, I will not sleep!
What's a good line for crappie?

    "All I use is Trilene,"
    Said my girlfriend, Tiffany Lurlene.
"Trilene is crap, use Mr. Crappie instead,"
Or so claimed my buddy, Big Bad Ed.
    But now I'm confused.
    I feel battered and bruised!
What's a good line for crappie?

There's Vicious, and Vanish, and Fireline, too.
There's Power Pro, and P-Line, and Stren in clear blue!
    There's Sufix and Seaguar,
And Gamma is loved by GRIZZ.
There's clear line and green line. But what about hi vis?
There are so many choices and so little time.
I must have an answer! I don't dare waste a dime!
Oh, what's a good line for crappie?

Fishing is fun fishing is great
when it comes to fishing i just
    can't wait.
I got my gear i got my bait
when it comes to fishing im never
    late.
When the sun comes up and the
    sun goes down everybody knows
    where i can be found.
My wife knows best when i'm late
she just says he's at the lake and
belive me it's no mistake because
she knows that's the life of a fisherman.

    If they don't play
    We don't stay,
    When that cork goes down
Let'r rip and stick a lip,
If you get hung in the brush
    don't make a fuss
I'd much rather hook a log
    than miss a hawg,
You never know till you go
and you certainly cannot fry until you try,
Lastly, the wind IS NOT my friend.

    Default Old Timer

I once knew this old timer.
    He just loved to fish.
    To him it didn't matter.
    Crappie, bream or perch.

He taught me about fishing books.
He taught me how to tie a hook.
He showed me all the places.
That I should go and look.

He taught me how to drive a boat.
He taught me how to anchor up.
He taught me about the great outdoors.
He taught me that it's not just luck.

These days the kids do watch me.
    To see everything I do.
    Because of that old timer.
    Now I am one too.

    Default I want to go

I want to fish, I want to go.
But my chores, they tell me no.

Please just let me cast my line.
I'll do my chores, another time.

Just one day, at the fishin hole.
Peace at last, Holdin a pole.

Come on lets go, lets slay some slabs,
    Bream, or Bass.. even crabs

My Father and his, I thank them both.
Taking me fishing nurtured my growth.
Sun up or sundown, didn’t matter to me.
The thought of going filled me with glee.
    Crappie, bass, catfish, or eyes.
Catching them all made me wise.

Gramps is gone and Dad is older.
He doesn’t go much now, aches in his shoulder.
That’s ok though. I’ve learned very well.
My confidence grows, if you couldn’t tell.

Confident enough, to become the teacher.
My daughter learned, just had to find how to reach her.
Very proud was I when she caught her first fish.
And I’ll teach hers too, if I get my wish!

    Denizens of the Deep

    One clear and cloudless morn,
Under the blast of a summers scorn,
He sets forth on a quest,
on a battle, on a test.

    Armed for his struggle,
    With Rod, Reel and bait,
    He launches his craft,
And never, no never looks back

On the shore a lonely women gives a forlorn wave,
    Her stomach knotted and twisted,
    Will my man survive,
    Will he make it back

Hours pass, the sun lays low,
A red glow over the still seas,
The fisher-man returns...spent, but not defeated,
He has conqured the beast's, the denizens of the deep.

As You Dream In Endless Sleep
And Walk Along The Shores Of Time
I Will Cast My Line To Waters Deep
And Keep You Close At Mind
    What You Have Taught Me
    Through The Years
    I Will Teach Once Again
And Let My Own Children Know
    Where It All Began
