Just thought I'd share this, the other day, was just getting started,
dropped the baffle plate, got throttle set to about 2 mph, and started
putting rods in holders, unhooked baits from rods, and was letting them
drag in water as I got the rest out - crankbait was wiggling barely under
the surface, about 5' behind the boat, and about a 1lb spot came up
and just smashed it. With the short line, he would dive, load the rod,
then jump - with the spring off the rod, he was coming higher than my
head (6') out of water, laughing so hard I could hardly grab the rod, it
was bouncing in the holder so hard, I was 'fraid it was going to jump out!
Silly green carp! :D Had a memorable exp. back a few summers ago too,
when the cicadas were floating all over the water - Caught a catfish, and
was having a hard time with him, he got into another line, so I stopped, and
all the cranks floated to the top - before I could get him unhooked, had 2
more hit and get hooked, on top. Both these instances were in 25 -35' of
water.

That is funny, you catch them by accident and I struggle to catch any on purpose. I must start trolling!!

Yes Fishboy, I have thought about purposely trolling for the bass -
seems like everytime I get a little too close to a point and bump bottom,
or get too close to a brush top, I catch a bass. Most of them jump off
because of so much line out and limber rods. I went so far as to buy a stiff
catfish type rod and spool it up with 30 lb Fireline, to do this with, but
haven't got around to it. What would people say about me though, if they
caught me bass fishing? ;)
