    Default Catch of the day

Was fishing a pond near the house. When the line got tight so I set the hook
thought I was hung for a moment then I felt some movement. Come to find out I was hung on this 23lb turtle. Boy was he mean. Bassaholic took some of the meat home but his mother said she would not cook it for him. HAHA

It's been a few years, but we did set jugs with lines and hooks attached to catch those snappers. I can remember doing a lot of chewing. The best part was putting the shell in the oven with a big chunk of butter and cooking it.

I used to have a neighbor that had a "turtle pit" built from cement blocks. He had a buddy we called Little Bit that would get drunk and crawl back into the swamps to set turtle traps at night. When they went to check the traps the next day, Little Bit had sobered up enough that he didn't want to fetch those traps from the critter infested swamps where he had set them the night before!!!! Must have been a live catch trap of some sort, because they brought the cooter home, put them into the turtle pit and fed them something for a few weeks before cleaning them. He swore they were very tasty.
