    Default more the merrier

Just heard this on the radio, supposedly studies have shown that the no. of
your social contacts (friends) are a better predictor of your state of
health than your age, smoking or not, etc. Said the more friends you
have, the healthier you will be. Maybe quack science, maybe not.
But sounds nice anyway. I do think laughing sure is good for you,
worrying bad. Now if I could just quit worrying about stuff, one of our
favorite sayings here at the shop is "100 years from now, nobody will know
or care anyway" But it isn't that easy, production deadlines take on a
personal thing with me, wake up at night thinking "got to get those parts
to co. xyz" Other favorite saying, "one of these days, we're
gonna look back on this and laugh"

Junk science, who knows. I have read many times if we have one true friend before we die, we have done good. I'm still looking for mine.

Interesting, Fishinpox. I am not what you would call swarmed, myself.
Lots of pleasant aquaintances, but that brings up the question, what
defines a true friend. An old pal when I was in the AF, outranked me,
and kind of took me under his wing, when introduced to my girlfriend,
had this to say: gf "so you know Jeff?" sarge "Lets just say, if he asked
me to kill his wife, I'd just want to know what he wanted done with the
body" I wasn't married at the time, but boy, what a look on gf's face :D
Tightest pal growing up, practically lived at each others houses, now we
hardly see each other. Thought I might have found a really good fishing
partner a time or two, but never really panned out. Guess I am just
contrary and hard to get along with. Good thing about your own kids,
they don't hold it against you. Wife is a pretty good ole s**t too, but she takes raising the kids so serious, we don't talk a whole
lot anymore, past "don't forget to take the garbage out" and "and just how
many days are you staying?"(fishing trips!) Just don't have time after I work
and she works and gets them homeworked and bathed and seperated (fights!)
Now I'm feeling guilty and need to go home and referee the kids -

JWhite;; You'll worry yourself into your grave,If It's not your company, Just give the man a day's work for a day's pay. no more no less. I don't let these things bother me any more like they used to, finally figured out I'm only one man, no matter how much i worry about the job, chances are it's not going to change a thing in the end, ( No matter where you go, There you are?)
    Good luck.

Good advice, but it is, at least 1/3 of it, my company.
I should explain I guess, why I spend so much time on here. Me and two
friends opened up a tool and die / machine shop a little over two years ago,
and I spend sometimes 14-16 hours a day here, at work. Once I get a
machine or two running, I have lots of 5 - 10 minute spells to do other things,
like order material, or quote work, or my favorite, talk or read about fishing!
I am sort of a captive audience I can only search the web or look at
fishing catalogs for so long! It does drive my partners nuts, but we all have
our weaknesses, fishing is mine. By the way, it is how I met one of my
partners, the one who got me and the other guy together and into this.
I guess you could say, whatever I ever have, I owe it to fishing? :D

Usually if you have a lot of friends, you are paying the bill, but i have a partner who has helped me build a barn.He shows up like clockwork.I am going to have it buttoned up by winter.and what a relief it will be.HE HAS SEEN MY HIGHS AND LOWS.When he says LETS GO, we go fishing. Fishing, reading bout fishing, and eating fish rank high in my house. Its a cleansing, near religious experiance. I have been lucky to have grown up on the same lake that my boy will hopefully grow up on.At 6:00pm, its time to go. Bout a quarter till, i hear a dodge truck a comin. I got the old pontoon loaded. He is a GOOD friend.I drive for a living. He wants me to go to NY and back next week.I am feeling bad just thinking bout it, but sometimeswe got to payback a debt.

Sounds like you have a "keeper" there, allright.
Know what you mean about paying the bill though. My most disturbing
problem though, was not about money - I usually have the attitude "I was
going anyway, just glad for the company", but a few years back, went a
few times with an older man I met on the ramp one day, and my problem
was, he was new to the area, and didn't know how to catch fish up here.
I took him, and we slew 'em. Then he no longer had time/use for me.
A few months later, the seasons changed, and he wasn't able to catch fish
anymore, so here he comes again - got him on fish again, and again got
dropped like a bad habit. Finally, I hadn't seen him in a long time, so I
stopped by to vistit him. Gave me a sad story about how his health was
so poor, he just didn't feel up to fishing anymore. I felt terrible for him.
Then I started getting reports about him fishing all my "holes" during the
week when I was at work, caught him at it one day. Not that I own the
Lake, just don't lie to me, you know what I mean?
