use gps for accurate speed readings
I have a two year old Ranger 188 w/a 150 Merc Optimax...I love everything about my boat but the speedometer is not giving me an accurate read...Any suggestions for a quick fix or should I take it in??? Help!

You don't know if you don't go.

How off is it?? Most are just a guesstimate anyways. You can actually make your boat go as fast or as slow as you like by making the orifice of the pickup bigger or smaller...lol.
Thumbs up on GPS. Thats the best way.
How bad off is it?? Maybe Dirt Dauber in pick up.
"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 25:15
If you are talking about the speedometer on the boat, then it's probably a small pinhole in the motor just behind the boat that sucks in water. It probably has a small piece of trash in it and it can't pick up water. The smallest drill bit will clean it out. I've had that problem a couple of times.
In my last two boats everything worked except the speedo. Must have something to do with trash getting into the small tube.
