    Default Finding scattered Crappie

How do you guys fish for scattered Crappie?

I went out yesterday and the fish are scatterred all over the place. I could find one or two stacked up on a crib, but that was it. The water temps are still too cool for spawning.

Looking for some ideas on how to find them.

Run and gun, hit it and get it, if they don't play we don't stay. If they only give you one or two per spot then hit 20 spots and get a mess by the end of the day. Scattered has two possible definitions. One is what you described - one here and one there. Another is - a bunch here shallow and then a bunch here deep (for example) but not a bunch everywhere. Either way, running and gunning is the only way and just sitting and waiting on them is not going to put them in the boat.

I ran into the same problem on a local lake here in Indiana on Saturday. Like Darryl says, run & gun. We would pull one or two off of a blowdown and that would be it. After about 15 mins. of nothing. we were off to the next blowdown. I finally found about 10 of 'em while sitting between two blowdowns and alternating back and forth between them. Here are the fruits of our labor:

Five were between 9-10" (decent size for Indiana) and the rest were 10.5" - almost 12". 5-12 FOW, water temps 54-59 degrees. They are just moving into the shallows up here, and next weekend should really be fun!!
