    Default WAAS vs Non-WAAS

Anyone have any real world experience with comparing the two units side by side as far as accurancy? Can you really get that much closer to your target?

My Garmin GPS-12 and GPS-12XL's are as accurate as any WAAS GPS that I ever compared them to. They put me right on top of my spots 100% of the time.

I am very interested in this too - could this be because the WAAS units
are not always able to pick up the required extra signals, and you are
essentially "non WAAS"? Wish I knew more about it, my differential receiver
has a screen you can go to and see how good your reception is, whether it
is working or not. Do WAAS units have this? I have heard some folks say
that the WAAS signal did not seem to work on theirs around here, is it
global coverage, or just in spots like Loran used to be? I guess I'm gonna
have to spend an entire evening searching the web to answer some of this...

Actually a a gogle search on WASS immediately brings up some very informataive information. It looks like it all boils down as to where you are. My boys got me one of Lowrance's iFinder H2O with an active external antenna. It seems to make a lot of difference on the strength and number of satelites acquired. Now I've go to figure out whta all that means. I've also got the Map Create 6 USA Topo version. Sure is a lot of info in that thing.

The problem with waas is the fact it is a ongoing project by the feds.Waas satellites orbit around the equator and there not but a small number of them.being in a equator orbit it is hard to keep a lock because of land objects blocking the signalThey are set up for craft being airborne or in the open ocean where signal does not get blocked.my unit has waas, bought it hoping the feds keep improving the system until everyone can benifit from it.
