transducer question

Please help me if you can. I am not particullary excited about drilling a hole in the bottom of my boat to put a transducer on. Has anyone ever used a pvc pipe on the back and attach the transducer? I was thinking the pvc could be clamped on the back, or maybe drilled to the back of the boat. I want to be able to raise and lower the transducer.

Please let me know if this would work, or I am I looking for trouble. I appreciate the wonderful advise many of you give, and it is very kind of you to take the time to help some of us!

I have seen brackets made for that ,so would think you could make your own cabelas usually has stuff like that

don't know what kind of boat you've got, how fast it will go. I made one
similar to what you describe when I first got my boat, fished electric only
for awhile, and it worked great. Obviously, any speed and you would have
to raise it before taking off - that may be what you were planning. Something of interest maybe to you fast-boat guys, last installation intructions I read, they stressed fastening the transducer cable to the transom securely, so in the event of striking a hazard with the transducer,
it wouldn't come violently whipping back up into the boat, swinging on the
cable never really thought about that, but could see it happening!
One of those could put a pretty good knot on your head.

Yes! A friend of mine has done exactly that - with PVC. And it works great. He doesn't leave it in place while moving at high speed. But it works great, and he can move it around from place to place.

Some glue a can with both ends cut out in the sump of their boats and put some water in it and just sit the transducer in it. It has worked fine in all my boats but you have to turn up the gain. But all I use my back BF for is to find the drop-off and then I fish with my front unit.

I've been using an old transom trolling motor bracket for about 20 years. These brackets can be obtained at marine repair/service shops. The shops normally just trash old trolling motors that are not repairable. Most trolling motor brackets hinge in some manner which allows you to raise the transducer to inspect for alignment/moss/etc.

I have a piece of plastic 3/4" thick about 14" wide and 18" tall. Its bolted at the top and used glue at the bottom and middle.
That way I can move the stuff around and not have holes in the boat.
Also have temp probe there also..
