    Default Yellow Bass anyone?

I never knew the Yellow Bass were that tasty until someone told me last year. I seem to always catch some when crappie fishing so I decided to give them a try. To my surprise they were really good!

With no size or numbers limit, why not keep some!

FYI incase anyone here didn't know like I didn't.

    Default Duck vids

a friend loaned me some Jim Duckworth fishing vids, and he (Duckworth)
raved about how good they were... I have caught them before, but never
considered that they would taste any different than a white bass. Learn
something new every day though, next time I meet up with one, may have to invite him home for supper.

    Thumbs up

Here at Saline/Larto, if they are big enough we keep them. Mix them right up with the crappie fillets, can't tell the difference except for the shape after they are cooked.
The only problem I have with them is the SHARP gill plate and fins.

Skip, we eat them here in LA.....they go by so many names it's hard to keep up with them....yellow bass, barfish, sand bass etc. All the same fish, and they taste good to me. In times when they're schooling, I always slice the red meat off to avoid the strong oily flavor when they're feeding on shad. Some like the flavor, but I prefer the sweet meat. They're so many of them it's not hard to catch a good mess in a short time, especially when they're schooling.

J White yes you need to try them and I agree with Slab Hunter and labill just mix them with the crappie and they just a little slimmer filet and taste about the same. I only throw back the real small ones now.

I was like you J White just figured they would not be all that tasty, but I got surprised.

Also yes Slab Hunter they are definitely handle with care fish, they will cut and stick you with them plates. Also around the plate they seem to be able to flex out other little pieces around the gill plate.

yes, though for a long time, I thought it was just stunted white bass
with jaundice! :D Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the yellows
unique in that they don't have any "tooth patch" on their tongue?
I forget the drill, but whites have (?) and sea-run stripes have (?) one or
two, hybrids ? I used to know, but must have used the memory space for
something else. I know if you keep hybrids, and mistakenly count them as
whites, you are in trouble if'n you get caught around here - think the difference in limits is 3 hybrids, over 15" and 50 with no size
on whites... also just looked, and we do have a 50 limit on yellows in MS.

I must have caught a million of those things over the years. I always thought they were trash fish and just pitched them back in. If they taste like crappie, I guess thats what I will continue to do. If they taste like bream, I'd probably keep them lol.
