Default big head crappie jigs- gimic or not

I was looking online and came across "Big Head Crappie Jigs". They sound interesting. Would they help with keeping the jig on deep cover when verticle jigging say 12 feet plus? I have added weight in the past but I do not feel the strikes.

Would a weight at the bottom and the jig on a loop be the answer?

I bought a bunch of them about 5 years ago. they are a big chunk of lead as far as crappie go. they probly work good for people that are more accomplished verticle jiggers, which I'm not. they are a quality product for sure. I would get the plain lead ones and paint them myself, as they don't have much of a color selection.

Trust me, Big Head Jigs are all gimmick! You wouldn't catch anything on them. Lol!

All seriousness, they work great for vertical fishing. I usually have my set up rigged alternating between a 3/32nd teezur and the Big head. I seem to have caught my biggest crappie on Bass Pro Crappie Beaver on a Big Head Jig.

I use a 1/4 oz jig in the summer and night fishing the same time of year. For me that is big enough and have all the feel I need even in a bit of wind.

Don't know anything about big head jigs though.

Like someone else on the site I can not get a hold of anyone from the site. I feel uncomfortable just sending money and an order form. Has anyone ordered before they contacted the site?

I bought some a couple of years ago but can't find them on the web now. They are a quality product. Good in the wind.

Apparently crappie guide Ken Riddeck has taken over with the Bighead Jigs. I think that the site has finally been updated as they now offer them in Pink also.

They are the ticket for 8 or more feet of water or in high winds for vertical jigging. I have felt strikes at 15 feet with whitecaps on the lake! The hook-up rate is phenomenal. The Midsouth Superjigs complement the Bighead jigs very nicely. Here are just a few nice slabs that we have jigged up from over 12 feet of water with 'em.
