Growth on Crappie

I dressed a Slab Crappie with a quarter sized knot on it's tail flesh. Cut into it and it was hard and white , was this a cancer ?

I doubt it was cancer. We see some parasite spots like you mention on some of the fish around here. I usually just trim around them and proceed as normal.

Interesting, I've cleaned several with similar spots and have always wondered.
