    Default Minnows

Depends, about 250 adults is average, so say 200-450 a pound depending on size. Someone was selling minnow fry i think 5# was 2,000,000 fish, to small to hook though.

I wonder what the bait shops pay for minnows since they buy them pounds at a time from fish farmers and distributors. The baitshops in Drasco and Batesville charge $2.25 per dozen, and you're very lucky if you get 13 for a dozen. On the other hand there's a bait shop in Forrest City that charges $0.75 per dozen, and I assume they're making money.

on average in Miss, Med #6 will cost you $49 for 1,000 minnows (delivered to the bait house), so that's about 4.9 cents each WHOLESALE. Most places around here sell them for 12 cents each for MED. This is buying from the MIDDLE man, if you can go straight to the grower they would be even cheaper. But the markup is around 100% plus for most places RETAIL and apparently for the middle man too.

Well, the Batesville and Drasco baitshops are selling their minnows at 18.75 cents per minnow, and the Forrest City shop is at 6.25 cents per minnow. If they are buying them at the same price you are, the 2 high shops are making quite a return on their investment. However, there's a good chance they're buying them from the growers as there are minnow farms at Lonoke and Paragould that I know of, and they make deliveries to baitshops.
