    Default Fishing Report

Didn't get to the lake till 7, had to take time to introduce my oldest
to the joys of Waffle House - can you say "scattered, covered, and
smothered"? Caught 18 and some "by-catch" by 10, then went and
found a shady spot and played with the punkinseed and baby smallies
for awhile. I talked her into releasing the blue "thug", he was a good
boy and came straight in without tangling any other lines and all the
rest of the "junk", but she just had to keep the biggest green carp.
A 15", couple of 14"s, rest just good eating size. Jeff

Hate we were not there. Looking forward to meeting you.
Glad that you had a good day fishing. And I think your little girl is on a path to fishing for life..Nice catch .

That looks like one happy little girl! So nice to see the little girls fishin. I didn't get to fish a lot as a child and am a bit of a "sissy girl" about it. Like to catch 'em, not so much to touch 'em!

By the way, what kind of fish is a pumpkinseed? I have never seen one before your pic.

I'm can't get scientific, but they are a kind of bream, or perch as we call 'em.
Don't recall ever seeing one much bigger than the one she's got, the picture
really doesn't do it justice - they look like they are on fire - orange with
all different shades of green on the top, and electric blue "veins" on the
gill covers. We have some close in the cattle ponds around the house,
but they are yellow instead of orange. Pickwick is the only place I have
seen the orange ones. Wish I had a big aquarium full of them! As for girls
fishing, I couldn't help but notice a bunch of women either by themselves
or with the kids out pleasureboating yesterday, looks like the guys are
missing out! Wonder where they are at, but good to see the women are
out there enjoying themselves. p.s. on the subject of touching the fish,
my first intro to fishing with my firstborn was to a pond full of little bass - I showed her how the guys on TV kiss the fish... then I had to stop her, cause she was really kissing them, I mean REALLY. :D

Thanks a lot, Mike, that was interesting and fun. Can you dig up anything
on those yellow ones I spoke of? Maybe soon I'll put up a pic, they may
just be a variation of the other. Gosh, there are a lot of different "perch"!

Don't know what to think about the yellow ones. I've seen them very orange before in lakes and rivers I've caught them in. Always a beautiful fish! Not much meat though!
