The above is "for soil", but could probably work on lake water dipped into a small container. Seems to not do temperature.

If You are looking to eliminate water for crappie with a PH meter, it will not work for black crappie. I've caught them in water so acidic that they were not fit to eat. Just taste bad. White crappie on the other hand are less tolerant to acidic waters and the PH meter would probably be a big help. CF

What are you looking for on a ph meter? I never thought about using one fishing.

... used to find the most likely place for fish to be

    (copied compilation of facts)
"A pH range of 5.0-9.0 is considered safe for freshwater fish, and a range of 6.5-8.5 is essential for good growth (Stroud 1967; U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 1976). Black Crappie prefer a little more acidic water (pH less than 7)."

Most of the waters I fish, usually have a pH of around 8-8.5 ... so I never bothered to check the pH in any continuous manner. When I had a Combo-C-Lector ... it had a pH meter built in. After I kept getting the same narrow range reading, I never bothered to use that function anymore.
