Baker this question is for you. Mike will chime in. He has had some success on LOZ with them.
I have been told that alot of the tounament trail guys throw mega baits to catch big slabs. In the past weeks ,I have thrown the hell out of it with no success. Are there certain situations when a bait like this should be used? Any suggestions appreciated.

Went up to LOZ three weeks ago to fish with suspending baits.
Nate said the water was too warm @ 50 degrees.
Water Temp. needs to be below 45 degrees for that pattern.
The colder the water the better.
Also, need to let the bait sit for 5, 10 , 30 , 60 seconds and then twitch and let it sit again.
He also told me something that my brain would not handle too well. On the first bite he said to let the crappie run around with it to activate the other crappie in the vacinity. I'm not sure I could do that part.

I have never used these for Crappie. What kind/brand /size seems to work best for you?How deep do they suspend?
Thanks
Rich
cmcduck should be able to tell about throwing jerkbaits at them.I think they use Lucky Craft.
hubcaps if you like the jerk bait idea, try small crank baits, real small, pink,black/silver work year arround, I have been using small cranks for a long time, they work. try it.
I'll be darn...might give that a try
I second the small crank baits and I notice you tend to catch larger crappie with them.
We caught some nice slabs back in Feb and early march using luck craft jerk baits. You really have to let them sit awhile and then they do smack em hard. I do think that bite may have slowed down a little. Its always worth a shot on flats. Like others have said, Baker is the one to talk to about this.
