    Default FYI on ultralight rods...

I was in Bass Pro today and handled three really nice ultralight rods. Of all the ultralights there, these had the best action. Falcon had an ultralight that was 5' 6" I believe....maybe 6. It had the best feel. Great sensitivity. Wally Marshalls Mighty Light, the 5'6" was really nice too. And the cheapest. And the Shimano Clarus had a good ulralight. The Falcon and Shimano were in the 50 dollar range. If anyone is looking for a good ultralight for casting purposes, check these out.

Just my two cents...I have a Falcon FS-UL-15 5'6" Ultralight that I've been using for about ten years. It's been a great rod that's currently on it's third reel. I don't remember what I paid for it new, but I'd gladly shell out around $50 if they still make them like that.

Falcon rods are great. Really well made, IMO.

Another really nice one is the All-Star American Classic Ultra Light Spinning 5'4".

A really like All-Satr rods and own several of them:

    Default Shimano Speedmaster?

Anyone still got one of these? It is a sort of odd looking rod, look at
the last pictures I posted of my kids fishing on the main fishing board -
my youngest daughter is holding it in several of the pics. The rod slowly
tapers up to the handle diameter - it is all one piece with just a little thin
foam on the very butt end. Bought it in '89 on Scott AFB in IL. Have not
seen anything before or since that even came close to the sensitivity of
that little rod. Back when I cast and reeled jigs as my primary method,
I could feel the tiniest "peck", when others fishing with me couldn't feel
the strikes at all. You'd have to be a parent to understand, but I wouldn't
let most grown-ups use it, but hand it over to a 4 yr old... Got me wrapped
around their little fingers, those two. Is anything comparable still being made?
It is a 6' medium action, my preference over wet-noodle actions for any kind
of fishing, just have to be a little more careful say, with 4lb and a big
shellcracker or you'll get broke off, but the "feel" is worth the risk to me.
Caught everything from bream up to 25 lb drum on it one time or another,
    on 4 or 6#.
